Please review the activity booklet brought home from school with your child. Once you’ve reviewed the booklet, fill out the entry forms for an I-Pad and Fire Chief for a day. Take your completed Ballots to the Terrace Fire Department By October 13th 3:00PM . The winner of Fire Chief for a day will be picked up at school by the Terrace Fire Department on October 26th at 9:00am and attend breakfast at McDonalds with the Fire & Police chief, City of Terrace Mayor, and Counsel. After breakfast, the child will get a tour of the Fire Department, then return to class with a cake. (Parents welcome). If Terrace has a winning child of an I-Pad, the winner will be notified by the Terrace Fire Department and presented to the student at school.
Reduce your family’s risk from fire by following the tips below:
Smoke Alarms
-
Make sure everyone in your home can recognise the sound of the smoke alarm and knows exactly what to do when it sounds.
-
Install smoke alarms in all sleeping areas and on every level of your home.
-
Smoke alarms should be tested and maintained in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions. Alarms should be tested once a month by pushing the test button and listening for the alarm.
-
For battery operated smoke alarms, replace batteries at least once a year or for extended life batteries according to manufacturer’s instructions. Batteries should also be replaced when the smoke alarm makes a chirping sound.
-
Smoke alarms should be cleaned at least every 6 months, by gently vacuuming the exterior.
-
Smoke alarms do wear out and should be replaced at least every 10 years.
