At the City, we often have a TON of capital projects happening or in the planning stages. Capital Project include new, upgrades to, or the replacement of, City infrastructure. For example:
- Upgrades to aging and current facilities such as the pool renovation, lighting along trails, sidewalk resurfacing, flooring in buildings, and more.
- Construction of new facilities such as the Sportsplex, or a new columbarium at the Cemetery
- Road reconstruction
- Replacement of essential equipment such as the purchase of a new vehicle, snow plow or Zamboni
- And much more.
The City's annual budget process always includes an annual operations budget AND a five-year Capital Plan, which lists planned projects by department and by year, and includes basic cost estimates. Capital projects are usually funded through external sources such as grants and other provincial transfers, but can also be funded by internal sources such as reserve transfers.
