COURSE DESCRIPTION

Bronze Medallion teaches judgment, knowledge, skill, and fitness – the four components of water rescue. Candidates acquire the assessment and problem-solving skills needed to make good decisions in, on, and around the water. Bronze Medallion is a prerequisite for Assistant Lifeguard training in Bronze Cross.
Bronze Cross begins the transition from lifesaving to lifeguarding and prepares candidates for responsibilities as Assistant Lifeguards. Candidates strengthen and expand their lifesaving skills and begin to apply the principles and techniques of active surveillance in aquatic facilities. Bronze Cross emphasizes the importance of teamwork and communication in preventing and responding to aquatic emergencies. Bronze Cross is a prerequisite for advanced training in the Society’s National Lifeguard and leadership certification programs.
Bronze Medallion/Bronze Cross Combo Course In this combo course, candidates will learn the skills of both the Bronze Medallion and Bronze Cross. This course is designed for candidates who are 13 years and older with the ability to swim. Candidates will develop proficiency in First Aid, Water Rescue, Fitness, and decision-making skills with a focus on performing low-risk rescues. This course will include a 600m timed swim and fitness training skills.

- Prerequisites: 13+ years of age (by last day of course); prescreening swim test of 400 metres
Bronze Cross Course Details
- Prerequisites: Bronze Medallion; prescreening swim test of 400 metres
REGISTRATION
Cost: $120 per course - or $60 each if you are 15 + years old, live in the Terrace area and plan to work at the Terrace & District Aquatic Centre!
These courses are best suited for strong swimmers. If you're not sure that your swimming level is up to the level required to take these courses, you can come to the facility for an assessment.

COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course is designed to provide knowledge and practice to maintain an airway and administer supplemental oxygen. Contents include: safe handling of oxygen, knowledge and assembly of oxygen equipment, selection and application of oropharyngeal airways and oxygen delivery devices, pulse oximeter use, and appropriate use of suction and bag valve masks.

COURSE DESCRIPTION
The First Aid Instructor (FAI), recognized as Occupational (OFA) Level 1 Instructor, trains instructors to apply teaching and evaluation philosophy to techniques and approaches required to teach first aid skills. Candidates also learn about long-range/short-term planning, class management, safety supervision, and the principles of evaluation.
Lifesaving First Aid Instructors are able to teach the entire Lifesaving First Aid Continuum upon certification to include the following programs:
- CPR A with AED
- CPR C with AED
- Basic Life Support Responder (BLS) (formerly HCP)
- Airway Management & Oxygen Administration (AMOA)
- Emergency First Aid (EFA)
- Emergency First Aid Child & Residential Care (EFA-CRC)
- Standard First Aid (SFA)
Pre-requisites:
- Standard First Aid (must be current)
- Occupational Level 1 course or equivalent (need not be current)
Please note that pre-requisites to this course are offered regularly through St. John Ambulance.

Junior Lifeguard Club is designed for those looking to begin or continue their development towards becoming a certified Lifeguard or Swim Instructor. Swimmers will develop skills based on personal bests in swimming, lifesaving, fitness, knowledge, leadership, and teamwork.

COURSE DESCRIPTION
Want to be certified through BC’s most recognized pool operator training? We’re offering BC Recreation and Parks Association’s Pool Operator Level 1 and 2 at the Terrace & District Aquatic Centre in the New Year. Featuring classroom and practical hands-on learning, it includes updated content that reflects the new BC Pool Regulations and Guidelines. Once you’ve completed this training, you’ll be equipped with the knowledge of how to operate and maintain a pool, valuable skills for job opportunities in lifeguarding, pool maintenance, pool management, and more.
Pool Operator Level 1:
This course assumes little to no knowledge of pool operations, making it a perfect introductory course for beginners.Pool Operator Level 2:
This course goes into more depth on the topics discussed in Level 1.

COURSE DESCRIPTION
This certification course is designed to develop the fundamental values, judgment, knowledge, skills and fitness required by lifeguards. The National Lifeguard course emphasizes the lifeguarding skills, principles and practices, and the decision-making processes which will assist the lifeguard to provide effective safety supervision in swimming pool environments.
Airway Management Oxygen Administration (AMOA) is included in this course.
