Learn how to play taiko drums in this fun 1 day workshop with the all-woman group Sawagi Taiko! We are so happy to be collaborating to bring Sawagi Taiko from Vancouver to Terrace. Sawagi Taiko is the first all-women's taiko group in Canada, formed in 1990. We would like to start a recreational taiko group here in Terrace, and are looking for energetic, positive, and collaborative people to join us! April 13, 2019 1 pm - 4 pm (25 spaces) OR April 14, 2019 1 pm - 4 pm (25 spaces) $65/person (TWRCS members prioritized) + eventbrite fees. You can avoid eventbrite fees by registered in-person with Elena at the Women's Centre. Limited spaces available. All supplies provided. Ages 15 and up. This is an active workshop using lots of muscles. It can also get very loud! Please consider this when registering. You will need to bring your own ear plugs. :) We'll be drumming on our Terrace Women's Centre DIY car tire drums! **Location subject to change* THE FUTURE OF SAWAGI TAIKO Sawagi Taiko continues the historical and cultural connections amongst different Asian cultures - the instrument originated in China; the artistic form originated in the rural communities of Japan. The members of the group are of Chinese and Japanese ancestry. We explore our different ancestral legacies in our art form and our pieces reflect our diverse experiences as East Asian Canadian women.
