The newly paved section of Graham Avenue in this photo may not look like a big deal, but it’s what inside that counts!

Earlier this year, the City upsized the main sewer line that leads into the City's sewage treatment plant (STP), located under this section of road. (You can see the entrance to the sewage plant in the photo.)

The City's sewer system is gravity-fed, with sewer from the whole City flowing through this pipe before it gets to the treatment plant. In other words -  this is a VERY important pipe for all of us who live in Terrace.

The project, which was completed in the late Spring of 2025, had several components: the upsizing of the sewer line, new manholes, and the repaving of the affected section of Graham Avenue. The demand (amount of sewer going through the pipe) was becoming too much for the pipe so earlier this year, we replaced the existing 500 mm AC Sanitary Sewer line with a significantly larger 750mm PVC mainline. This means we can all now use our facilities with more peace of mind!

The work was  funded through the City's Northern Capital & Planning Grant Reserve and the Northwest BC Resource Benefits Alliance Agreement with the Province of BC. Through that agreement, the City of Terrace was awarded almost $35 million over five years to support the renewal or replacement of capital assets, and construction of infrastructure, such as roads, water, sewer and other amenities.
