Statement issued by: Fire Chief Joel Brousson, Terrace Fire Department
Subject: Arson Attacks on Kalum Cabs

TERRACE, BC - The Terrace Fire Department responded to two separate arson attacks targeting Kalum Cabs on August 24 and August 29. These deliberate and calculated acts pose a serious threat to public safety, place firefighters at increased risk, and represent a disturbing escalation in criminal behaviour within our community.

Deliberate fire-setting in any area—especially near businesses, homes, or public spaces—puts innocent lives at immediate risk. Fires can spread quickly and unpredictably, threatening nearby residents and bystanders who have no connection to the intended target. These reckless acts also strain emergency resources, diverting crews from other critical calls across the city.

Arson scenes are inherently dangerous, often involving hazardous materials, limited visibility, and the potential use of accelerants. Responding firefighters must operate with extreme caution, knowing that the conditions are deliberately set to be destructive and volatile.

We encourage all residents to report any suspicious activity without hesitation. Community awareness plays a vital role in prevention.

The Terrace Fire Department is also deeply grateful to the bystanders who quickly alerted first responders to both incidents—your actions made a difference.

The Terrace Fire Department continues to work closely with the RCMP to ensure the safety of all residents and the protection of our emergency personnel.

Please direct any questions to the Fire Chief with Terrace Fire Department at 250-638-4742 and/or the RCMP at 250-638-7400.
