What's the difference between a sidewalk and a multi-use pathway (MUP)?

MUPs support active transportation. An MUP is geared towards a variety of uses, for example, bikes, roller blades, skateboards, joggers, walkers, and more. MUPs are made of asphalt and are wider than a sidewalk (approximately 3 metres wide). Sidewalks are meant for pedestrian-use only. They are about 1.8 metres wide, and made of asphalt or concrete.
