ALERT: Icy Road Conditions

Public Works

ALERT – MONDAY, JANUARY 10: ICY ROAD CONDITIONS

Freezing rain is causing extremely slippery conditions on our roads, sidewalks, and pathways. We advise residents to stay home and avoid non-urgent travel whenever possible due to these hazardous conditions.

Our roads crews are out in full force putting down sand/gravel/salt as well as plowing some areas, including sidewalks; however, it’s important to remain cautious even on what appear to be sanded roads and walkways. Soon after the sand is spread, it is getting rained on, which quickly freezes over. It may look like your route has traction, but the gravel is often frozen between ice. Our crews will continue to distribute sand, gravel, and salt for traction until conditions improve. According to Environment Canada, a winter storm warning remains in effect, with freezing rain remaining in the forecast through tonight and possibly Tuesday.

We will provide updates on conditions as they progress. In the meantime, please stay safe and stay home if you can!
