The City of Terrace is pleased to announce the hiring of Joel Brousson as Terrace’s new Deputy Fire Chief. Brousson takes over the role for outgoing Deputy Fire Chief Dave Jephson, who gave 30 years of service to the City of Terrace. Brousson has been Acting Deputy Chief since October 2, 2023, and was officially hired permanently into the position on October 26, 2023.

Brousson started in the Junior Firefighting program in 2010 in the Interior of BC; other education includes a degree in psychology with a specialization in crisis management, as well as paramedic training. His first position was with the Lacombe Fire Department in 2013, and in 2021, he was hired at the Kitsumkalum Band. There, he had the opportunity to build and maintain their emergency program, overseeing specialized emergency-related teams and training within their emergency response program.

“Since the age of 8, I knew I wanted to be a firefighter. Seeing two of my uncles working for the police force and ambulance service instilled early in me a desire to serve the public. Bringing stability to someone’s worst day and ensuring safety and best practice within emergency response motivates me daily. I am humbled to serve with the City of Terrace and look forward to working closely with the career and volunteers as Deputy Chief of training and operations,” said Brousson.

“On behalf of the Fire Chief's office, I want to welcome Joel Brousson as the newly appointed Deputy Fire Chief. In his new capacity, Deputy Fire Chief Brousson will play a pivotal role in overseeing Terrace Fire’s operational readiness, fire training program, and emergency response strategies. His leadership will undoubtedly strengthen Terrace Fire Department’s ongoing commitment to community safety and well-being. I also want to take this moment to honour the contributions of our outgoing Deputy Fire Chief, Dave Jephson. Serving the department for 30 years, Dave’s steadfast commitment to our community has been guided by a deep focus on public safety and community service,” said Fire Chief Chad Cooper.

“I’d like to welcome Deputy Chief Brousson to Terrace and thank former Deputy Fire Chief Dave Jephson for his many years of service to the community. We are looking forward to working with Deputy Chief Brousson, who brings a wealth of experience and leadership to the role,” said City of Terrace Mayor Sean Bujtas.
