City Freemen Scholarship

City Freemen Scholarship

In 2006 the City of Terrace established the City Freemen Scholarship to be given annually to a deserving graduating student from Caledonia Senior Secondary School.

Rationale

The City of Terrace wishes to recognize the special contributions and ambassadorship of its Freemen to the City. Granting the honorary “Key to the City” is reserved for those individuals who have exemplified the values of integrity, honour, commitment, and leadership along with a love for the community of Terrace.

The City Freemen Scholarship will be administered by the N.W. Education ‘88’ Foundation which is an established non-profit society whose mandate is to administer funds for scholarships for graduating students.

Criteria

The City Freemen Scholarship is to be given annually to a graduating student of Caledonia Senior Secondary School to help them offset expenses they may incur in achieving their post secondary studies.

This $500 annual scholarship is to be awarded to a student who has shown leadership, integrity and community involvement, and who exemplifies the values of being a good citizen of Terrace.

The scholarship will be awarded to a student who is intending to pursue an educational programme of eight or more months’ duration at any recognized post secondary educational institute or training school approved by the Ministry of Labour, within 22 months of the date of the award.

The scholarship money will be awarded to the student upon proof of registration. Should the scholarship not be claimed by the recipient within the time limits, then those funds will remain in the City Freemen Scholarship account held by the Foundation.

The Scholarship Committee of Caledonia Senior Secondary School will select the recipient of the City Freemen Scholarship and the City of Terrace will be invited to present the scholarship at the annual Caledonia Awards Ceremony.
