Downtown Plan and Design Guidelines Update - 2018
Downtowns are often considered the heart of a City. They are one of the primary areas where economic, cultural and social exchanges occur. The success of a downtown extends beyond its boundaries; a successful downtown benefits the surrounding neighbourhoods and the community as a whole.
Downtown Terrace is home to public spaces, historic buildings, a diversity of businesses and much, much more. The social, recreation, entertainment, and cultural amenities found in the downtown are important to all Terrace residents.
Downtown Planning provides an opportunity to develop a vision that will encourage and foster the development of a safe, appealing, vibrant, and economically resilient downtown area.
What is a Downtown Plan?
A Downtown Plan provides an opportunity to develop a vision that will encourage and foster the development of a safe, appealing, vibrant, and economically resilient downtown area.
This comprehensive vision for the downtown area includes an overall vision and goals as well as more detailed directions on streetscape, gateways, downtown theme, building and property improvements, signage and parking and traffic.
The current Downtown Plan was developed in 2008. The City of Terrace, along with consulting firm Modus Planning Design & Engagement, has initiated the process of reviewing and updating this 2008 Downtown Plan and the corresponding Design Guidelines. This update will provide downtown business owners, property owners and the community as a whole an opportunity to look at our downtown with fresh eyes, and work collaboratively to imagine downtown for the Terrace of Tomorrow!
